Episode 506: History X Hip Hop Project: Our Great Heritage: November 12, 2016
Yoo Jae-suk comments that everyone seems to be exceptionally well dressed today.
Hwang Kwang-hee is wearing a “skunk” shirt and Haha is wearing “3D Glasses.” Meanwhile, Yang Se-hyung gets made fun of for wearing his everyday clothes, so he yells at his stylist Yuna for not doing a better job. Haha notices that Yang Se-hyung’s jeans are folded in, and Yoo Jae-suk rolls them out. His pants go past his toes.
It’s almost the end of the year, so the <Infinite Challenge> crew want to end it on a high note. The PD says that they’ll be a festive party. He asks about the most popular type of music among young people these days. MC Minzy correctly guesses hip hop.
For their next challenge, the MCs will be doing hip-hop with the topic of history. We get a montage of music videos featuring the artists we’ll be seeing today like Zico, Dynamic Duo, BewhY, Dok2, etc.
Yoo Jae-suk comments that rap these days is not easy to follow and is really diverse.
Yang Se-hyung, “Jeong Jun-ha hyung rapped on TV . . . and did such as bad job . . .” LOL. I was not expecting that diss. We get a flashback to MC Minzy on <Show Me the Money 5>.
Park Myung-soo says he wants to rap about the court physician Heo Jun. He jokes that he’ll rap a list of 3,000 medical ingredients from his medical text “Mirror of Eastern Medicine.”
Luckily, because none of the <Infinite Challenge> MCs are professionals, they’ll be guest rappers helping them.
They talk about who they want to work with. Park Myung-soo picks DinDin. They’re probably close because they’re on the show <Sing Street> together. Jeong Jun-ha wants to work with Bewhy. Hwang Kwanghee – Dok2. Yang Se-hyung picks Dynamic Duo since they’re really smart and always reading books. Haha wants Song Min-ho. Jeong Jun-ha – Zico. Yoo Jae-suk picks Dok2. They also mention some female rappers like Yoon Mirae and CL.
This segment ends with a trippy clip featuring all the MCs.
Yoo Jae-suk’s Special Guest
Yoo Jae-suk is sent to an expensive penthouse on the 36th floor. There aren’t many people in Korea living in places like that. It’s Dok2’s house. Yoo Jae-suk goes to shake his hand and sees his gold watch. He’s all about the bling.
Dok2 has crates of drinks in his foyer that he gives out to delivery men. How kind.
He has a lot of Gucci slippers. Dok2, “I’m obsessed with slippers.” He also has a lot of watches on display. Dok2, “I’m obsessed with watches.” He tells Yoo Jae-suk to try one on. Yoo Jae-suk says he doesn’t want to because he’s worried about scratching it, so Dok2 tells him he doesn’t mind and can even just throw them around. Yoo Jae-suk actually throws one. Dok2 is shocked.
Dok2 says he hasn’t cleaned up his house because he wanted the filming to be natural. Some of the rooms are a little messy because he just moved in.
He has a lot of clothes and gives Yoo Jae-suk some to wear. It’s a pink sweatshirt and pants set. Dok2,”I’m obsessed with tracksuits.”
Dok2 seems like a really generous person. He even gave his master bedroom to his cat. The cat has a view of the Han River.
He can see the N Seoul Tower from his workroom. Dok2 says he grew up dreaming of living in the places that he saw on MTV Cribs. Yoo Jae-suk, “But you might earn less in the future, shouldn’t you try to save your money?” Dok2, “I don’t think about stuff like that. I’m always positive minded.”
They move on to talking about history. Dok2, “I don’t really know much about Korean history since I attended a foreign school, but we can learn together.”
Yoo Jae-suk asks about Koreans who he respects. Dok2, “I don’t know, you asked so suddenly.”
Yoo Jae-suk asks if he knows King Sejong the Great. Dok2, “I don’t know in detail.”
Yoo Jae-suk, “You know he invented Korean right?” Dok2, “Of course I know that because I lived in Yeoido and there’s a statue of him in Yeoido Park.”
He asks about Yi Sun-shin, the Imjin War, Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, etc. Yoo Jae-suk says that most people these days don’t know about history, so they want to try to introduce it to people through rap.
They listen to some of Dok2’s beats. He has a few epic ones that would work well with historical lyrics. Dok2 takes out his phone to look at the time. Yoo Jae-suk makes fun of him for not using his many watches. Dok2, “They’re more like bracelets than watches.”
Today’s Guest Rappers
The entire <Infinite Challenge> crew meet up in front of the King Sejong the Great Memorial Hall in Dongdaemun, Seoul. Jeong Jun-ha gets made fun of for trying to be overly respectful, when he was fooling around just moments before the cameras started rolling.
We get introduced to today’s guests one by one.
- Hwang Kwang-hee and Gaeko
- Yang Se-hyung and BewhY
- Haha and Song Min-ho
- Jeong Jun-ha and Zico
- Park Myeong-soo and DinDin
- Yoo Jae-suk and Dok2
Hwang Kwang-hee introduces his partner as, “G-A-E-K-O, it’s ZICO!” Looks like her got nervous with the opening. Gaeko is worried about working with Hwang Kwang-hee. Yoo Jae-suk, “He has more pride than skills. That means he’s got swag.” Gaeko says that when he forgets his lyrics, he just makes a smiling face, like he meant to do it.
BewhY looks really tall next to Yang Se-hyung. He’s known for looking like Muhammadd Ali and Jay-Z and is the winner of <Show Me the Money 5>. He has a weird hairstyle, so he has a lot of nicknames like thumb and Donkey (from Shrek).
When good-looking Song Min-ho comes out, the MCs make fun of each other for looking like a grasshopper and a squid. Haha bragged about knowing Song Min-ho well. Song Min-ho, “Yes, I’ve met him once.”
The PD tries to play Haha and Yoo Jae-suk’s rap cover of Song Min-ho’s “Fear.” They yell at the PD to turn off the song. When he doesn’t Haha runs over to the audio equipment to turn it off himself. As soon as they walk away, the audio team turns it back on. It’s quite cringe-worthy.
Yoo Jae-suk asks the rappers who they’re most uncomfortable with. Song Min-ho whispers Park Myung-soo because he’s scared he’ll get yelled at. Park Myung-soo, “You need to get criticized in order to improve.”
Zico is worried that his appearance will be boring since he’s already rapped on <Infinite Challenge.> He’s a huge fan of King Sejong and even has a tattoo of the king.
DinDin is the only rapper there without a hit song, so instead of showing off his rap skills like the four rappers before him, he shows off his variety skills and does a parody of G-Dragon. Yang Se-hyung says this is the first time he’s seen a celebrity shorter than him.
Dok2’s couldn’t make the filming today since he’s doing a concert in Singapore, so a staff member gives Yoo Jae-suk an ax, which is what Dok2’s name means in Korean.
Next, the crew move into the King Sejong the Great Memorial Hall which has been converted to a classroom for a history lesson with history teacher, Seol Min-Suk. He’s taught history for 21 years and has gotten popular lately due to his appearance on the show “No Way I’m an Adult.”
Seol Min-Suk lectures on the Joseon Dynasty and wars. Everyone is surprising studious and taking notes.
