Episode 339 – Yoo Jae-suk’s Week: Yoo Jae-suk’s Stomach Sport’s Day – February 19, 2017
Today’s episode features Yoo Jae-suk’s friends. The show opens in a room where Lee Chun-hee, KCM, Kim Won-hee, Kim Yong-man, and Heo Kyung-hwan are sitting at a table. They talk about which Running Man cast member they think they can take on. Then the PD explains to everyone the rules of today’s game.
Next, we go to a stadium where MC Yoo Jae-suk has brought some presents. He’s the MC of today’s Sport’s Day where his five friends will battle the five Running Man cast members.
However, there’s a hidden rule that Yoo Jae-suk doesn’t know about. There will be four rounds today, and the winner of each round will get a present. Inside each present, there will be a hint about the location of the final present. The team to find the final present wins. However, if Yoo Jae-suk finds out about the final present and gets it first, then he wins by himself.
Yoo Jae-suk notes that the past few Members’ Weeks have been too emotional and heartwarming, so he just wanted to have fun and laugh today. He calls out for his friends to walk out into the stadium.
Kim Yong-min leads his team, holding a flag like its the Olympics. Yoo Jae-suk does the opening with his friends for some of their old shows like <Surprise>, <Come to Play>. and <Jagiya>.
Yoo Jae-suk says he hand picked the Friends Team to match the Running Man Team.
It’s Big Nose vs Kim Yong-man. Yong-man says he laughed when he found out who his opponent was because he thinks he can easily take on one of the younger Running Man members. Pft. Kim Yong-man is a studio MC and says he only came on the show today because he heard that filming would take place under a “roof.”
He says he’s the most worried about Lee Chun-hee, but Chun-hee himself is confident because he’s guested on <Running Man> several times, but Kim Won-hee points out that he never did well in the <Running Man> races anyways. Yoo Jae-suk references their time from <Family Outing> where Lee Chun-hee once washed vegetables with soap. Hm . . . it sounds like Kim Yong-man’s worry is justified.
Song Ji-hyo’s opponent is Kim Won-hee who promptly gives Ji-hyo the “You’re dead” signal. Kim Won-hee is the original female variety star.
It’s Haha vs Heo Kyung-hwan since they’re around the same height. LOL.
Yoo Jae-suk says he though long and hard about someone who could take on Kim Jong-kook. KCM is wearing a cast on his arm, but he says it’s not a cast, it’s just fashion. He brings out extra arm warmers for Kim Jong-kook who protests at first, but puts it on.
That leaves Lee Kwang-soo and Lee Chun-hee. Both are tall and not quite um . . . intelligent?
Round One: Rival Battle: Kim Jong-kook vs KCM
Round One is 1:1 battles. The first battle is a strength battle. It’s Kim Jong-kook vs KCM.
The staff brings out a high tech arm wrestling table with alarms that go off when someone’s arm hits the table. Both Kim Jong-kook and KCM are known for their strength, so this is going to be tough. The whistle blows. Both are shaking, and then KCM manages to bring Kim Jong-kook’s arm down. KCM wins. Haha shakes his head saying that didn’t just happen.
The next battle is thigh wrestling. Kim Jong-kook has to keep his thighs closed while KCM tries to open them. They have 10 seconds. Both clench their teeth. Kim Jong-kook manages to keep his closed for the entire time, and KCM says Jong-kook’s thighs felt like rocks.
This time they change roles. KCM keeps his thighs closed while Kim Jong-kook tries to open them. KCM manages to just barely win since Kim Jong-kook only barely moved his legs, but overall, Kim Jong-kook wins the thigh wrestling.
The final round is a tug of war while sitting. It’s tough. Kim Jong-kook loses his grip though, and they pause to restart. The tug of war starts again. It looks like the rope is going to break. This time, their feet slip. This isn’t going to work. The round ends in a tie.
Round One: Rival Battle: Haha vs Heo Kyung-hwan
The next battle is a five second Yoo Jae-suk quiz with Haha and Heo Kyung-hwan. The players each have five seconds to answer each question. Every time the opponent fails to answer a question in the allotted time, they can cut one of the other player’s five wires. If they cut the correct one, the balloon on top of that player will burst, releasing flour.
For the first question, Yoo Jae-suk asks for three things for his first impression.
Haha says, “Good looking, ugly, nice.”
Heo Kyung-hwan says, “Has wrinkles, losing weight, hair is arranged well.”
Yoo Jae-suk then asks for five strengths.
Heo Kyung-hwan says, “Speaks quickly, good looking, tall.”
Yoo Jae-suk asks for his five weaknesses.
Haha says, “Ugly, ugly again, really ugly, completely ugly, truly ugly.” His teammates clap in awe of Haha’s quick thinking skills.
Since Heo Kyung-hwan didn’t get five in time, but Haha did, Haha gets to cut one of Heo Kyung-hwan’s wires. Haha chooses to cut the green wire for grasshopper. Nothing happens though, because it’s actually the red one that’s holding up the balloon.
The next question is three things you hate hearing from Yoo Jae-suk.
Haha says, “No fun, ugly, go away.”
The next question is three things you often hear from Yoo Jae-suk.
Heo Kyung-hwan says, “Hey Heo Kyung-hwan, Heo Kyung-hwan you rascal, Where are you.” Yoo Jae-suk admits that he actually does say these things to him regularly.
Yoo Jae-suk then asks for three things they’re better at than him.
Haha responds, “Good looking, good family, wife is prettier”
Heo Kyung-hwan responds, “Shorter but better looking, shorter but cooler, shorter but faster, shorter but stronger.”
Haha complains that Heo Kyung-hwan said four things and not three, but Yoo Jae-suk defends Heo Kyung-hwan saying extras are okay.
The next question asks when they hate Yoo Jae-suk.
Haha says, “Now, yesterday, the day before yesterday.”
Then Yoo Jae-suk asks for five things they want Yoo Jae-suk to fix.
Heo Kyung-hwan says, “Talking about broadcasts during dinner, . . .” He just mumbles some stuff and the time runs out.
Haha choose the red wire next as Kim Jong-kook yells out, “7012!” It’s the correct wire, so Heo Kyung-hwan’s balloon pops, exploding flour all over him.
Round One: Rival Battle: Song Ji-hyo vs Kim Won-hee
The third round is another five second quiz. It’s Song Ji-hyo vs Kim Won-hee.
Both women walk out with towels on their heads, and the others joke that they look like nuns while “Ave Maria” plays in the background.
The first question asks for five of Yoo Jae-suk’s weaknesses.
Song Ji-hyo says, “Talks too much, glares, wears glasses, mouth sticks out, small eyes.”
Kim Won-hee says, “Only wears skinny jeans, fist sized nose, changes glasses too often, mouth sticks out, teeth are ugly.” She just barely gets five in.
The next question is three things Yoo Jae-suk says often.
Song Ji-hyo says, “Be quiet, go away, you’re loud, go there.” The Running Man Team is so good at this game. They’ve had a lot of practice though.
That’s followed by three times Yoo Jae-suk seems pitiful.
Kim Won-hee says, “When your butt eats your pants, after ending . . .” She runs out of time.
Song Ji-hyo decies to cut the blue wire. The balloon pops in one go.
Round One: Rival Battle: Ji Suk-jin vs Kim Yong-man
The fourth battle is a chicken fight. Ji Suk-jin and Kim Yong-man have never done it against each other since neither are really into athletics.
Kim Yong-man is pretty aggressive while Ji Suk-jin gets tired just defending. Then, the two agree to rest a bit and put their feet down, but neither falls for the trick.
Kim Yong-man then goes for a direct hit and knocks down Ji Suk-jin. He falls over like a paper doll.
Round One: Rival Battle: Lee Kwang-soo vs Lee Chun-hee
The final round is bar wrestling. It’s Lee Kwang-soo vs. Lee Chun-hee. Lee Chun-hee surfs, so he supposedly has strong arms.
The both of them are pretty tall. They jump onto the bars as soon as the whistle blows, and have to try to knock each other down. Ooh this one is dangerous. I hope no one gets hurt.
Lee Chun-hee pushes Lee Kwang-soo’s legs off, but Kwang-soo manages to hold on to the bar with his arms. Both then sit on top of the bars afraid to attack. After a bit, Lee Chun-hee grabs Kwang-soo and both lose balance. As Kwang-soo tries to hang on, Chun-hee pushes him down.
After five rounds, it’s two wins per team plus a tie.
Yoo Jae-suk says he’ll give the round one present to winner of round two. It’ll be double or nothing.
Round Two: Lunch Talk Battle
For lunch, there are a bunch of delicious foods including stir fried small octopus, army steam, chicken stew, bulgogi, cellophane noodles, soft tofu stew, just to name a few.
For this round, every person who tells a funny story gets a point and a dish. The team to tell the most funny stories wins.
Kim Yong-man says he hopes Suk-jin hyung gets to have some chicken.
Both round one and two presents are on the line.
Talk Battle Start!
Kim Yong-man talks about his colleague Comedian Yoon Ki-won who had an old car. It was a lemon, so the lights didn’t work at night, but there would be some bright light anyways. It turned out that the metal part of his seat belt hung outside the car and dragged on the street creating a spark. This was 20 years ago. Yoo Jae-suk gives him bulgogi.
Heo Kyeong-hwan says he’ll top that story with one about a car and a manager.
His manager would often sleep while waiting, so Heo Kyeong-hwan chastised his manager to do something productive with his time like reading books. Then after a Gag Concert filming, he saw his manager suddenly wake up and pretend as if he hadn’t been sleeping. Heo Kyeong-hwan told him to drive since he wasn’t asleep, but the manager was only half awake and grabbed the water bottle instead of the gear shift.
Yoo Jae-suk gives him some marinated short ribs. That’s another point for the Friends Team.
Kim Jong-kook talks about actor Lee Hoon’s manager. Lee Hoon told him “let’s go” and the manager was so nervous that he hit the back of his head while trying to drive the car in reverse. It’s that thing when people drive in reverse, they put their hand behind the head rest of the passenger seat. He gets some stir fried small octopus.
Ji Suk-jin talks about a gang boss who had tattoos all over his body. One day, he had to get surgery on his stomach. The Friends Team glares. Haha yells at them for trying to intimidate Ji Suk-jin. Suk-jin continues, the surgeon then asked if he had any requests. the gang leader said, “Please, line the tattoos up properly.” Yoo Jae-suk gives him nothing for his unfunny story.
Yoo Jae-suk then say’s he’ll give some army stew to the next funny story teller. Heo Kyeong-hwan says he’ll tell an army story for the army stew. He says some army seniors used to prank their juniors about there being ghosts. They tried to tell a new recruit that there were some ghosts, but the new recruit was a martial arts athlete and accidentally punched the senior out of fright.
The Friends Team wins the lunch battle 3 to 1. They get the presents from both rounds.
The round one present is vitamins and the hidden hint is a paper ship. The round two present is Korean beef and there’s a picture of a grasshopper inside.
Round Three: Hide and Seek
Everyone gets on a bus to relocate for the next round.
Yoo Jae-suk says the next round’s present is even better. He bought all these presents with his own money.
Kim Yong-man slyly says they need to get off the bus and talk about how to split up the beef. They then get off to talk about the hints. Kim Yong-man realizes that they’re near the cruise ship area of the Han River so maybe that’s what the paper boast were referring to. Lee Chun-hee wonders if the boats refers to Yoo Jae-suk’s stomach since boat and stomach are homonyms in Korean
Round Three is a team hide and seek battle.
Each team will take turns singing a karaoke song while the other team hides among 30 vans in a parking lot. If they get 90 points or above on the karaoke machine, they will have five minutes to look for the other team. If they get 80-89 points, they will have three minutes.
The Running Man Team sings first while the Friends Team hides. They try to hide in the vans with the darkest windows. Kim Won-hee and KCM hide together. That way, once they get caught, KCM can pretend to be alone while Kim Won-hee hides in the back.
Kim Yong-man sits under a cameraman and pretends to be filming. Lee Chun-hee does the same. Heo Kyeong-hwan puts his jacket in the front seat of a car and then hides in the back.
The Running Man Team finishes singing and get 100 points! They have five minutes and it starts now!
They start opening random doors. Ji Suk-jin opens Kim Yong-man’s car but doesn’t notice him in the front. Song Ji-hyo finds KCM who runs out the other door as soon as she opens the side door. She’s too busy chasing him to notice Kim Won-hee in the back. Haha helps Ji-hyo to tag KCM. Haha then finds and eliminates Heo Kyung-hwan. Lee Chun-hee gets out too. They get to the end of the 30 cars, but still haven’t found Kim Won-hee or Kim Yong-man. They realize haven’t check the trunks, and go back.
Song Ji-hyo opens the front door of a car and finds Kim Yong-man. There are just 8 seconds left. Kim Won-hee never gets caught.
Now the teams switch roles. The Friends Team sing In Sooni’s “Friend.” How apt. They get 100 points as well. It’s starting to get dark now. They have five minutes to search.
Song Ji-hyo gets found quickly, and Kim Jong-kook is ovsious since he’s standing on top of a car roof. It looks like that plan backfired. They then get Ji Suk-jin. Lee Kwang-soo is hiding in the front seat with a plastic bag wrapped around his head and face. He’s shocked at how easily he was found.
Now, it’s just Haha left. There are 22 seconds left. Kim Yong-man opens his car, but doesn’t notice Haha sitting on the floor of the front passenger seat.
Since both teams found four players each, it’s a tie.
They decide to do a tie breaker with some karaoke. The female players represent. It’s Kim Won-hee versus Song Ji-hyo.
Kim Won-hee sings So Chan-whee’s “Tears.” She gets 82 points.
Song Ji-hyo does Apink’s “Mr. Chu.” She gets 75 points.
The Friends Team wins again.
Their present is a Galaxy Tab S2. Wow! Yoo Jae-suk really spent a lot of money for this episode.
While the Friends Team is busy looking at their hint, Haha picks up a piece of paper off the ground. KCM dropped his grasshopper hint while he was dancing to Kim Won-hee singing. hehe.
The round three hint is a clothing label with washing directions. It’s says hand wash only at 30° Celsius.
Round Four: Telepathy with MC Yoo
For the final round, the teams have to guess the same answer as MC Yoo.
The first question asks which body part Yoo Jae-suk washes first when showering. The Running Man team is confident, but Kim Yong-man often went to the sauna with him, so he thinks he knows too.
- Yoo Jae-suk: face
- Friends Team: face
- Running Man Team: head
Since the face is part of the head, the PD decides to give it to both teams.
The second question is, “Is Yoo Jae-suk is more confident in his face or personality?”
- Yoo Jae-suk: face
- Friends Team: personality
- Running Man Team: face
The Running Man team gets the round four present. That was a super short round . . . I wonder if it’s because it’s already dark out.
The present is a signed You Jae-suk name tag. Ji Suk-in throws it on the ground in anger. There’s no hint this round, because round four is the part where the two teams are supposed to secretly look for the final prize.
Suddenly, the Friends Team tries to take off Yoo Jae-suk’s clothes. His VJ Kwon-ryeol just laughs as he watches from a distance. They take off his jacket and sweater.
Kim Jong-kook then comes in and runs off with Jae-suk’s sweater. The Friends Team chases after him, so he and Lee kwang-soo get into a van and lock the doors. Once safely inside, they find the words “VJ Kwon-ryeol” written on the clothing label. Lee Kwang-soo runs out to find Kwon-ryeol while Kim Jong-kook distracts the Friends Team with the sweater.
The Running Man Team finds six gold R rings in VJ Kwon-ryeol’s pocket.
The PD tries to conclude the filming by saying that’s it for Yoo Jae-suk’s week, but Yoo Jae-suk gets angry, “It’s my week?” Kim Jong-kook complains that is was indeed Yoo Jae-suk’s week since they did everything he wanted during the Sports Day, and Kim Yong-man adds that they even all ran to him at the end.
I was excited when I saw Lee Chun-hee in the previews, but it’s a shame that he barely got any screen time. I was looking forward to him since he’s barely on TV anymore. I wonder what he’s up to these days.
Overall, I’d say that this episode was a bit average for me. I liked the 1:1 battles, but the next few rounds were a bit meh. I’m worried for Running Man because I assume that after Members’ Week ends, they’ll be back to doing guests of the week, just like today’s episode. ㅠㅠ.
Next Week: Lee Kwang-soo’s no stylist, no manager mission with viewers
