Episode 4: November 16, 2016
Last Week: The three teams prepared for their street concerts and handed out flyers.
Park Myung-soo and Sung Hoon
Park Myung-soo and Sung Hoon are doing rehearsals. Park Myung-soo yells at Sung Hoon over and over for making mistakes. Sung Hoon is worried and nervous. He hasn’t slept in four days due to practicing so much.
Park Myung-soo walks away sighing and tells the cameras that he was like that when he first started out. Nerves aren’t something that can be fixed through hard work. Sung Hoon tells the cameras that he feels apologetic and thankful at the same time to Park Myung-soo for taking him on even though he’s lacking.
Lee Sang-min and Din Din
Lee Sang-min and Din Din are really happy with their location choice. It’s got a lot of character.
The concert starts and Din Din asks everyone to start tapping the water bottles they handed out earlier. They want their audience to contribute to their sound. Din Din is such a variety star blue chip that I forget that he’s also a talented rapper.
After Din Din raps one of his songs, he introduces “The God of Music” Lee Sang-min.
Lee Sang-min, “Our concert’s theme is about all sorts of sounds from the street.” He raps his characteristic angry crying rap against the beat of a motorcycle engine. For the next song, there’s a guest singer, Roora’s Kim Ji-hyun.
The crowd is pretty young, but there are a few families too. Lee Sang-min works so hard that he’s sweating buckets.
Kim Ji-hyun says she had a lot of fun.
- Din Din’s “Chronicle “
- Roora’s “100 Days of Dating”
- Roora’s “3!4!”
Bong Kids: Bong Tae-gyu, Seo Samuel, and Raw By Peppers
We cut to Bong Kids. Their stage lighting looks really neat in the dark. Bong Tae-gyu and Seo Samuel walk right into the middle of the crowd to sing. They both seem pretty high on adrenaline. Unfortunately, this segment is pretty short because we already saw the first half of their street concert in the previous episode.
Bong Tae-gyu, “We have two more concerts left, so please come see us again.” The crowd asks for an encore, so they do one more song.
- Sanullim’s “Mischievous Boy”
- GOD’s “One Candle”
Lee Sang-min and Din Din
Back to Lee Sang-min and Din Din’s concert. For their next song, they tease that they’ve invited a female singer who’s had a number one hit.
Lee Sang-min sings a medley of songs with a reggae twist. Din Din stops the crowd, “You want to hear something crazy exciting for the last song?” As Din Din starts rapping, Jo Hyuna of Urban Zakapa walks out.
Jo Hyuna also tells the cameras that she had a lot of fun, and it was a unique experience.
- Insooni’s “Night After Night”
Park Myung-soo and Sung Hoon
Now, it’s finally time for Park Myung-soo and Sung Hoon’s concert. Their concert started a couple hours later at 7 pm while the other two teams performed at 5 pm. The two are wearing traditional assassin outfits. They look a bit silly, but they get points for trying to match the traditional atmosphere of the location. Park Myung-soo opens the show by shooting some arrows into the air.
Looks like the people in the front are having a lot of fun with their light-sticks. Park Myung-soo seems to know what he’s doing. I can tell he has a lot of experience DJing.
Sung Hoon walks out onto the stage next. It’s hard to tell from the way the concert’s edited whether or not Sung Hoon is doing a good job. Park Myung-soo sits behind Sung Hoon giving him tips behind the stage. Sung Hoon seems really grateful for the help.
Park Myung-soo, “He’s good looking, so once he improves his skills a bit, he’ll be the greatest DJ in Korea.”
Their guest is singer/rapper Cheetah from <Unpretty Rapstar>.
- Chuckie & Albert Neve’s “Damn”
- Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk”
- Shichon Blues’ “Alleway”
- Cheetah’s “My Number”
- Park Myung-soo & Gdragon’s “I Cheated”
The After Party
After their performances, all three teams have a BBQ party outside. Everyone talks about how much fun they had, and what a great experience it was to be able to perform up close and personal.
The PDs then show the three teams a highlight reel of each other’s performances.
Everyone compliments Bong Tae-gyu on his singing voice.
Park Myung-soo and Sung Hoon had the biggest crowd with about 250 people. The other two teams complain about their LED set. “How did you afford that with just 420,000 won? (~420 USD)
Park Myung-soo, “I’m going to use my own money for the final performance.” Din Din, “Then, I’m going to use my mom’s credit card.” Park Myung-soo, “Then Sung Hoon is going to take his clothes off for our next performance.” Sung Hoon, “NO~~~ I DON’T WANT TO!!!”
After the performances, the audience members rated them from 1 to 5.
- G-Park & Roy – 4.82 points
- Lee Sang-min & Din Din – 4.76 points
- Bong Kids – 4.82 points
The teams talk about who they want to work with next. Lee Sang-min, “I want to work with Park Myung-soo because my powerful voice will fit well with his beats.”
Park Myung-soo, “Me too.”
Sung Hoon, “I need a drummer, so Raw By Peppers.”
Din Din, “Seo Samuel, his voice fits well with hip hop.”
Bong Tae-gyu, “Lee Sang-min and Park Myung-soo.”
Lee Sang-min, “I’ve never been chosen this many times for something. Can you sing a song, just 8 meters, about me?”
Seo Samuel sings a song. He’s really good at improv.
Din Din sings, “6.98 billion won . . .Don’t worry. I’ll repay it soon.” haha.
Sung Hoon sings too. “I first saw you on another program,” but he quickly stops because he’s not very good at it, “I’ll just say it talking in words.”
The PD says the next street concert is a collaboration performance.
Next Week: Brainstorming for the next concerts.
